MBA-- Business in the Information Age --[Monday Nov
6, 6-9 pm]"Information Technology is no longer an isolated component
of business Strategy and operations in the hands of clandestine guru's,
but a ubiquitous tool on the desktops of all managers. Availability, flow
and use of information is the key enabling tool in business process reengineering.
For those who grasp it, IT will change their workstyles, improve their
productivity, and give instant access to a staggering depth and breadth
of Information.
This session will deal with IT structure in the large
organization; how changes in the flow of information make it possible to
streamline processes and reduce flow times; How the information revolution
including the worldwide web affects commerce, both in large and small organizations
through direct information of consumers and facilitation of trade. We will
also overview entrepreneurship on the web and how new opportunities in
e-commerce are changing workstyles and the nature of the workplace."
There is background information below related to IT courses in
the full MBA program and information processing in the modern office/business
environment. We will focus primarily on practical business use of the
internet, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship.
We will use the computer facilities in this classroom for
hands-on
exploration rather than just case studies or extended group discussion.
We'll do this as a group, so the session should be useful to gurus,
but non-threatening to neophytes. Some of it will be a little technical,
but we'll try to stick to what's available, how do you get it and use it,
and what does it cost.
